About us
TSA is a registered charity, founded in 1989, by
Dr. John Coleman. It works across the UK
and is based in Brighton.
TSA aims to improve the lives of young people and their families. We do this by enabling the individuals and organisations that work with young people and families to provide better services. We work in the following ways:
- running projects that develop professional practice
- carrying out research and evaluating the effectiveness of services
- producing practical resources such as guides, toolkits and training packs
- training professionals in a wide range of topics
- influencing policy-makers.
TSA’s work covers five main areas: health and emotional wellbeing; learning and education; parenting and family life; youth social action and participation; and youth justice.
TSA is not funded by any one body, and instead generates its own income from project grants, running training courses and selling publications. In the last five years we have been awarded grants from a wide range of bodies including Big Lottery Fund, DCSF, HM Prison Service, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Sport England, Youth Justice Board and many others.
